Why hello there, my awesome sauce meatlovers pizzas! It's been a while, hasn't it? I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel a strong need to hear from my fellow Bolt fans! So I've thought up another question for everyone.
I think one of the coolest things about Bolt is the relationships featured in the movie! I mean, sure, the voices are awesome, the music is a tear-jerker, and the plot is very sweet. But the heart at the center of it seems to be how the characters feel about one another, right? At least, I think so! Especially with Bolt and Penny, of course.
I'm going to fangirl and rant a little here! Bear with me, Bolt fandom!
Even after Bolt's whole world and view is shattered and he starts questioning just about everything when he learns he's not a Superdog, one little island of his life stays fixed in his brain, and that's Penny. He doesn't question if that's her real name or just the name of her character, or if she ever loved him--until Mittens says something, I don't think it ever occurred to him that she was just an actress, and not his Person for real. It's just so delightful, how his personality is wrapped up in loyalty to her! And Penny, too! She knows that Bolt believes the TV Show plot is real, so how could she not notice that Bolt would obviously risk his life for her if she really was in danger, and adore him for it? I don't know about you, but if my dog were lost, I'd be sad, but I'd be excited if they offered to give me a new dog! Penny's not just upset, she's devastated! I love how the song from the ending credits, "I Thought I Lost You" makes their points of view so different. Bolt sings 'I told myself I wouldn't sleep, till I'd searched the world from sea to sea!' He's not giving up! He's not accepting the idea that they'd never be together again! He's going to make sure they're reunited, because he can't imagine being without Penny. And Penny's verse: 'I made a wish upon a star, and I turned around and there you were,' is very wistful and longing, like she just has faith that they'll be together again, even though she can't do anything to make it happen but wish.
ANYWHO! Ranting over!
So all of that said, my question is, which relationship is your favorite in the movie?
Penny and Bolt's is pretty amazing and central to the plot, but OF COURSE so is Mittens'! She starts out defensive against Bolt, but she obviously starts to take a shine to him. I think his loyalty and selflessness breaks through to her, and even though she's guarded and all about herself after being abandoned, underneath all of that, she really does want to care about others and be cared for herself. And Bolt seems to bring that out in her!
Or Rhino and Bolt's? How awesome would it be if we all got to meet our favorite superhero like Rhino does? And Bolt doesn't want to let the little guy down, even after he learns he doesn't have powers!
Mittens' and Rhino? Obviously she starts out annoyed with him, but they obviously care about each other.
Or even more obscure ones, like Penny and her mom, or her mom and The Agent, which is pretty funny! If you look close enough, Penny's mom always has this sour expression, like someone spat in her bean curd, when The Agent is talking. Funny how she put up with him for so long!
Anyway, which relationship from the movie is your favorite, and why?
